Cheryl died  after a battle with cancer during our Senior year. No matter how sick she was, she always had a kind word for others. She had a wondeerful personality and a beautiful smile. While Cheryl never made it to graduation, she is missed.

Samuel C. Messina, Sr. (April 23, 1957 - May 28, 2011 )

Samuel C. “Sam” Messina, Sr., age 54 of Millsboro, DE formerly of Aston, PA passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Messina was born in Philadelphia, PA on April 23, 1957 son of the late John L. and Teresa R. (DiLullo) Messina. He was an insurance agent with Prudential Life Insurance Company before his disability in 1997.

Sam was a member of County Corvette Association in Media, PA, served as a commissioner of baseball in Aston, PA, helped coach Little League, a social member of American Legion Post #28 in Millsboro, DE and served on the board at the Pines in Long Neck, DE. He was also an avid sports fan of all Philadelphia teams and enjoyed cooking, reading and bird watching. Sammy however, will always be remembered as a man deeply devoted to his family and who truly loved life and wanted to make everyone happy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Lisa C. (Wilson) Messina; a son, Sammy Messina, Jr. of Millsboro, DE; a mother, Corrine Messina of Springfield, PA; a brother, John (Suzy) Messina of Glen Mills, PA; two sisters, Lucille (Benjamin) Cataleno of West Grove, PA and Angie (Joe) Poiesz of Springfield, PA; two nieces, Rachel and Sarah Messina both of Glen Mills, PA; two nephews, Dennis (Heather) Poiesz of Clifton Heights, PA and Andrew Poiesz of Springfield, PA.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, DE 19966, where friends and family may call after 12 noon. Interment will be private.

She was a graduate of Springfield High School, Class of 1975 and received an Associate Degree from Delaware County Community College. She was employed at the Clover store from 1976 until 1984 and DLL Financial Services in Wayne, PA from 1985 to the present. Robin was predeceased by her parents Jack M. and Rosemarie (nee Martin) Baltzer. She is survived by her husband David M. Milone and her two sons, Alexander and Nicholas Milone, her sister Susan Zweig and her sister-in-law Melodi (the late Jack) Baltzer. Beloved daughter, wife, mother, friend, colleague, mentor, and unstinting volunteer. Yvonne was a Pennsylvania native and grew-up in Springfield Township where she was a graduate of Springfield High School. She was a 1979 graduate of Gannon University, from which she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. While at Gannon, she enrolled in ROTC, was a George C. Marshall Award recipient, and was subsequently commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. She served her country in a number of increasingly important positions, both here and abroad, attaining the rank of Major before opting for an early retirement to raise a family in 1992. Her military decorations included the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Armed Forces Reserve Medal. After military service, Yvonne joined Booz-Allen and Hamilton as a consultant, and worked at the National Geospatial-intelligence Agency up until her untimely demise while on vacation with her daughter in Europe. She is survived by her mother Julia of Springfield, PA; husband Raymond, of Nokesville, VA; son Trevor of Richmond, VA; brother Felix of Fairfax Station, VA, and brother Jeffrey of Springfield, PA. She was predeceased by another brother, Montie, who had resided in Cranston, RI, as well as her father Felix Ciarlo Sr. and step-father James Kilgallen, both of Springfield, PA. Yvonne's unwavering love, kindness, affection, and charity will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Beloved daughter of Yvonne and Raymond Selke, loving sister to Trevor Selke. Emily was born at Fort Belvoir, VA and was a life-long resident of Nokesville, VA. She attended Brentsville High School, and Woodbridge High School Center for the Fine and Performing Arts, where she was a member of the Choir, Choir Counsel, Physics Club, Beta Club, and National Honor Society. She was also a Student Ambassador to Australia, Choir Section Leader, Senior Class Vice President, and Girl Scout Member for Life. She graduated Woodbridge Senior High School with high honors in 2010, then attended Drexel University, where she majored in Music Industry and minored in Business Administration. She was a member of the ZETA Chapter of the Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority which honored her with its Cornerstone Award. Emily graduated from Drexel University Magnum Cum Laude in 2013. She spent the following year working in support of various Music and Arts endeavors, including the Pittsburgh and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, and the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA. She worked for Carr Workplaces as a Client Service Associate from January 2014 until her untimely death on a vacation to Europe with her mother. She will be deeply missed by all those touched by her kind, loving spirit and infectious good humor. Tom Henderson via Jim McLean

Tom passed away, via a freak, accident while traveling on the PA turnpike northeast extension approximately 1976 or 1977.

Tom and a close friend (Steve Santoro perhaps (also deceased for other reason unknown to me)) were traveling to Poconos to stay a family cottage for the weekend.

They pulled car over on turnpike for Tom to 'relieve' himself in a very dark spot along the highway.

Tom stepped over guard to get off road while friend remained in vehicle. After an extended period of several minutes, driver got out of vehicle to look for Tom who was not seen and did not respond to voice calls.

Driver could not locate Tom & eventually called for help. Police arrived and found that Tom had tripped over or fallen after stepping over guard rail, rolled down long & steep embankment, apparently banged his head &/or knocked himself out and was found dead/drowned in shallow stream of only a couple inches deep.

I was home from college when this happened and heard the news that 'Tom Henderson' had died on the news. To confirm it was 'our' Tom Henderson, I called a Henderson relative who confirmed it was in fact our classmate. Tom & I had been friends since elementary school so this incident weighed heavily on my mind at the time.

Mark Alburger, Composer
Mark George Alburger, post-minimalist composer of more than 500 works of contemporary classical music, died at his home in Vacaville, CA on June 20, after a long illness.
Mr. Alburger was born April 2, 1957 in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania to Elizabeth A. (Bette) Alburger and the late George C. Alburger. He was the first of their two children. He graduated from Swarthmore College in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in music and later earned a master's from Dominican College and doctorate from Claremont College, both located in California.
A life-long musician, Mr. Alburger was proficient on many instruments, especially the oboe and was a high school student of professional oboist Dorothy Freeman of Newtown Square. After teaching at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA and at Westtown School in West Chester, PA, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, accepting the Director of Music position at Marin Academy in San Rafael. He founded 20th Century Music and New Music Publications and Recording in 1994 while serving sequentially as Minister of Music at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Tiburon and First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael. A life-long Presbyterian, he was an ordained Elder and was a choir member at both Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church in Rutledge and Davis Community Presbyterian Church in Davis, CA.
In addition to singing, Mr. Alburger studied the recorder, clarinet and oboe in grade school and piano in high school. Graduating fourth in his class, he was well-regarded by his peers as "a quixotic figure."
His association with Swarthmore College began with performances with the Delaware County Youth Orchestra, conducted by Music Department chairman James Freeman, Dorothy Freeman's husband and professional bassist. He returned to his alma mater several times for performances there.
Mr. Alburger was influential as founder and conductor / music-director of both San Francisco Composers Chamber Orchestra and the Opus Project. In addition, he was music director of Goat Hall Productions / San Francisco Cabaret Opera, and a journalist / music critic / musicologist – establishing and editing the music journals "20th Century Music" and "21st Century Music." He also wrote editorial entries for The Grove Dictionary of Music.
Mr. Alburger's innovative creative approach received acclaim from numerous critics, including San Francisco Chronicle writer Jeff Kaliss, who wrote, "Alburger's music blows the dust out of Bay area listener's ears", as well as from Minimalist composer Terry Riley, who noted that "everything Mark writes is dramatic."
An award from the American Composers Forum, while working on a second opera, "Henry Miller in Brooklyn," led to the beginning of his relationship with noted mezzo-soprano and director Harriet March Page ---whom he later married---and a flood of operas resulted.
For 18 years, Mr. Alburger taught piano, Music History and Theory at Diablo Valley College, near San Francisco. He also re-founded the Diablo Valley College Philharmonic Orchestra. During that time, he accepted the position of Resident Composer and Conductor of Goat Hall Productions, and founded San Francisco Composers Chamber Orchestra.
As a beloved educator, Mr. Alburger's recent activities included producing 84 music history mini-lectures for his Diablo Valley College music students during the coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, he placed his extensive compositional catalogue into numerous online archives for his devoted students and for music lovers everywhere.
In addition to his beloved wife Harriet March Page and his mother, survivors include his son Cliff of California, sister Sorrel Ann of New York City, numerous cousins and friends in California and throughout the USA.

Mark Bratz Obituary

 Mark Eric Bratz, 65, of Springfield, went home to be with our Savior on May 12, 2022 after complications from a difficult illness.

Mark was a gentle spirit who always enjoyed meeting new people and treating them as longtime friends. Mark enjoyed back-in-the-day music, singing, following Philly sports as well as the Denver Broncos. A lifelong weather-buff, Mark also enjoyed interacting with meteorologists and fellow weather-buffs online, trading extreme weather updates and stories of storms from the past. But Mark’s highest enjoyment and love was for dogs, especially his beloved German Shorthaired Pointers: Hershey, Heidi and Ochi. As an avid GSP lover, Mark enjoyed an extensive fellowship of Facebook friends who shared a mutual passion for GSP’s. Above and beyond these small snippets of Mark’s interests and passions, the overriding memory of Mark is that all those who happened to meet Mark along life’s journey, always walked away feeling that they had just gained a good friend.  

We thank God for having shared Mark’s life all these years, and even though he will be sorely missed by his mother, Dolores (“Dee”), brothers Keith (Wendy) and Douglas, niece Jenna (Rob), nephew Jeffrey (Jessica), and 4 great-nieces and nephews (Kaitlin, Jack, Gus, Nora)…we all know that, by God’s amazing grace through Christ, we will be together again.

Randy T Carpenter Obituary

Randy T. Carpenter, 66 (nickname Mr. Breeze) of Springfield, passed away in the early hours of Sunday February 4, 2024, in a hospital. Born in Darby, PA, he had a brother Robert and a sister Kathie.

 Randy graduated from Springfield Highschool, going on to study at a Vocational Technical school to become a Tool and Die Machinist. He worked at several companies: GE, RCA, Boeing, Sunoco, Hydro East, and finally Septa, where he retired last year. Fridays, when work was over, he would come home, grab his stuff and head down to Ocean City, New Jersey to our condo on the bay.

He loved to be on the water, whether fishing, crabbing or just floating on the water, rain or shine. He loved to travel to the Islands for snorkeling or walking on the beach. Randy was a great scuba diver. For several years, the family business was making wooden toys with his father, traveling to craft shows all over the East Coast.

Randy was a dedicated and devoted husband, leaving behind a loving wife, Barbara, their son Sam Plunkett, grandchildren Naomi and Jackson, mother-in-law Joyce E. Bingham, Samuel Bingham and several sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, close friends, coworkers, and neighbors.

Brian Cole Obituary

Brian Werner Cole passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2024.  He was 66 years old.  Born on April 9, 1957 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Brian was the son of Richard Irving Cole and Venetta Werner Cole.

Brian was a 1975 graduate of Springfield High School and a 1980 graduate of Philadelphia Textile and Science College.  He loved and lived to be near the water as much as he could.  He enjoyed  summers with his family at LBI, New Jersey.  In the 1980’s, he delivered private yachts, sailing passages from New England to Bermuda and Antigua.  Brian completed a transatlantic passage while earning his Captains License.  He met his wife, Kathleen in 1989, whom he married on June 7, 1997 in Chestertown, Maryland.  Brian’s vision in architecture and furniture design and his talent in transforming his designs into functional and beautiful pieces, gave way to his future business, “Decks by Design”.  He designed, built over 80 decks by design in the tri-state area.

As an active athlete and constant advocate of good health, Brian embraced a career as a personal trainer.  He began this journey at Main Line Nautilus and stayed with that facility until it became The Sporting Club of Bryn Mawr.  He built many wonderful relationships, lifelong friendships and heartfelt bonds with those friends in business, and clients during many years of his life.

Brian is survived by his wife, Kathleen McIntire Bowes Cole and her son, Anderson Bowes (his fiancé, Taylor Ford); sister, Lisa Sutphin (Jerry) and their daughter, Rachel; his sole surviving Aunt, many cousins and extended family and friends.

Lawrence Griffin, (1957-2022) 64, a resident of Media past away on June 1 2022. 

Lawrence was born in Darby Pa to the late Lawrence and Anna (Martin) Griffin, He was a graduate of Springfield High School and later Temple University. In his early years he was a member of the Young Republicans.

Lawrence was an insurance underwriter until his retirement. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan. The Philadelphia Eagles were his favorite team and he was a season ticket holder. He was a talented softball player and played for many local teams. He loved animals, reading and spending time on the beach. He was a loving brother who will be sorley missed by family and friends. He was predeceaased by sister,  Anne "Nancy" Cunningham.

Lawrence is survived by brother Michael F. Griffin.

Funeral service for Mr. John A. Klagholz, 64, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church with Rev. Mr. Klagholz was born on April 19, 1957, in Springfield, PA, and passed away on March 30, 2022, in Monroe.

He was a member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Mr. Klagholz started his career in New Orleans, LA, and the last several years has been the owner and operator of Interstate Dodge in West Monroe.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Pamela Johnson Klagholz; daughter, Katherine Klagholz; son, John Klagholz; sister, Mary Klagholz; two brothers, R. Martin Klagholz (Eileen); and Stephen S. Klagholz; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Linda S. Feldman (Haigh) aged 63 passed away on July 29, 2020 at Aventura of Prospect after a short illness. Linda was born and raised in Springfield, Pa. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1975 and then went on to nursing school. She worked 30 years a nurse -starting out at Delaware County Hospital, then the old Haverford Hospital as a Detox nurse and finishing up her career at Wallingford nursing home in the dementia unit. Linda enjoyed traveling with friends taking trips to New York and Williamsburg Va. She also enjoyed family trips to Florida, Georgia, and Cape Cod, Mass. She and her husband Kurt also enjoyed trips to the Jersey shore. She was an avid reader and also loved spending time with her dog Tyler, Linda was preceded in death by her Husband Kurt Feldman, her parents Sally and Joesph Haigh and brother Allen Haigh. Linda is survived by her nephew Matthew Haigh , his mother Theresa Haigh: step children Lauren Feldman and Edward Feldman: Cousins Mike Rambo his wife Danielle and son Sean; Lisa Mcdonough her husband Lee and Doug Rambo and his wife Michele and their daughters Beth, Sabrina and Noelle. 1959 – 2018 Lisa DiNicola, Esquire, 59, of Springfield passed away suddenly on May 2, 2018. Born in Darby, PA on January 30, 1959, Lisa was the loving daughter of the late Edward and Concetta (Fusco) DiNicola. She was also predeceased by her brothers Edward and Robert DiNicola. She was a graduate of Springfield High School, Temple University and the Villanova University School of Law. She practiced law for over 30 years at the Delaware County Public Defender’s office. She enjoyed being a volunteer teacher for the Religious Education Program at St. Francis of Assisi for many years. She was a loving sister, aunt, friend and colleague who will be missed dearly. She is survived by her sisters Cecilia, Dolores (Edward) and Michele (Peter), her lifetime partner, Gene Taggart, and her nieces and nephews who she cherished and loved spending time with. There will be a Visitation, Tuesday, May 8th, at 9:30 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 136 Saxer Avenue, Springfield, PA 19064. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 am. Burial will be at SS.
